  • Discharge Day: Accomplishing Goals And Getting It Done! It’s Really Time to Go Home and Live My Life Again!

Today is my discharge day from acute rehab. I have been working super hard the last week or so. Therapy has been three hours a day plus other work. I still didn’t meet all my goals, but it’s time to move on and reclaim my schedule.

This time has given me a chance to build different kind of routines, most notable goals being my prayer/bible time each morning. I am absolutely loving following along with the Adventure Bible.

I also have been enjoying reading or in fact listening to a book through Audible (right now I’m “reading” The Four Winds by Kristen Hannah. It is a long story but helping me reach my goal of reading a book each week.

I feel a little disappointed that I didn’t reach all my goals, most noteworthy of being able to stand completely on my own, but it is time. I will use the slide board if needed, but I think I will have that behind me soon enough.

So, my goal moving forward is not to panic or get stressed about the transition back to my apartment. My brother, Tim is going to meet me and help me get a little settled. I have a lot of packages to open and put away. Then, I have a special package to deliver to Yvonne (I ordered her a copy of Wicked), I want to print the newsletter and deliver it,

The next steps are going to be busy, but good. It’s a lot of waiting too- I need to wait for my Aflac payment as well as waiting for my plan G documentation.

I put in for extra help from Home Instead including an extra laundry shift, I think it will help on Monday when laundry will be due again.

I will need the tech to help pack up my clothes and assorted stuff that I’ve collected over the last couple of days. It’s a goal to have it organized. The plan is coming together.

  • Bible Study Everyday! Using the Great Adventure Bible As A New Translation!

I have really been enjoying the Bible in a Year Podcast. Each morning I am able to follow along using the Great Adventure Bible, I wasn’t going to buy a new Bible, but it seems worth it for the correct translation. I am not sure if I ever did morning Bible Study, but I am enjoying it!

Each morning I am following various readings and following along in the Bible. I am recognizing the various feasts or offerings. It has been great to study the Bible directly instead of just listening to the Bible.

I am sure as the year goes on, I will enjoy the readings even more. I can finally see the plan for covering the whole Bible. Right now, I am still waking up and getting ready for the day.

I hope my Bible content isn’t too boring, as I am still learning how to add more content.

  • The Hard Work Begins Today: A First Day of Inpatient Rehab!

So it begins.. I arrived at inpatient rehab yesterday after a few delays mostly because of the weather (crazy snow storm!) I ended up paying for transportation and it was a good decision since I am still having problems standing up and transferring.

I was beyond welcomed by the staff here for rehab and they have been wonderful! I am confident that I forgot a few things, but hopefully I can have some help from my family. I am super excited to start working hard- I will receive at least 3 hours of pt/ot each day, which is exactly what I need. Right now I am finishing my Bible in a Year Podcast, which is nice to be able to stay up on.

I am looking forward to unpacking my stuff and setting up for rehab, as I packed up pretty decently including lots of pants and t-shirts, but missing catheters and a watch charger! All in good time! For my first night I am wearing my special Buckee’s pjs that I picked up when I was there for my interview. It was a fun nod to what I have accomplished already.

I think I have said this before, but wanted to update people about the progress of the service dog. In addition to the service dog, I am continuing with rehab. The next steps is to have a site visit here at my apartment and they will also be bringing a dog to help me demonstrate some skills, hopefully at the grocery store. This should be taking place after the committee meets- around late March/ Early April. I am thankful that they are willing to come here. From there, the next steps would be to be accepted as a formal client and begin fundraising for team training and similar. Then begins the “Fun” part!- Something special PAALS calls “Speed Dating” where we make sure the right connection is made between a dog and the “handler.” Eventually, team training will take place, but this is a far way off. All of this is super exciting!

In the meantime, I will be working hard at standing and completing rehab goals. I am not sure exactly what it means to finish my antibiotics and future doctor’s appointments, but I moved as many appointments as possible. Time to track down what I am missing!
